Is The Bible Truly God

Is The Bible Truly God

Your answer to this question will determine how you view the Bible but also it will have an eternal impact on your life. If the Bible is truly God’s Word, then we should cherish it, study it, obey it, and trust it. If the Bible is the Word of God, then to dismiss it is to dismiss God.

The Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to mankind. The term “revelation” simply means that God communicated to us what He is like and how we can have a right relationship with Him. If the Bible truly is the Word of God, then it is the final authority for all matters of faith, religious practice and morals.

There can be no doubt that the Bible does claim to be the very Word of God. This is clearly seen in Paul’s commendation to Timothy: “…and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:15-17)

One evidence that the Bible is truly God’s Word is in its unity. It is 66 individual books, written on 3 continents, in 3 languages, over a period of approximately 1500 years, by more than 40 authors from many walks of life. Yet the Bible is one unified book from beginning to end without a single contradiction. No other book is like this. It is evidence that only God could have moved those men to record it.

The Bible contains hundreds of prophecies relating to the future of individual nations including Israel, certain cities and mankind. There are over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament pertaining to Jesus Christ and His coming. These prophecies are extremely detailed foretelling where He would be born, His lineage, how He would die and that He would rise again. There is no logical explanation for this except that the prophecies were of divine origin.

The historicity of the Bible is additional evidences that it is truly the Word of God. The Bible details historical events, its truthfulness and accuracy are subject to verification like any other historical document. Archaeologists consider the Bible their main source for location of ancient establishments. It has never been found inaccurate and has been used thousands of times. It is the best documented book from the ancient world.

Another evidence that the Bible is truly God’s Word is the integrity of its human authors. They came from many walks of life and have been found to be honest and sincere. They were willing to die excruciating deaths for what they believed. (1 Corinthians 15-6)

A final evidence that the Bible is truly God’s Word is its indestructibility. The Bible has suffered more attacks and attempts to destroy it than any other book in history. The Bible has withstood and outlasted all its attackers and is still today the most widely published book in the world. Yet, it remains today as it was when it was first written. Its impact on lives is unmistakable. Obviously, this could not be if God did not protect it. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Mark 13:31)
